How we can help you

Helping you to feel better and get on with your life

Are you in pain and/or unable to take part in activities you love such as walking, running, playing golf or gardening or are you struggling to care for or play with your children or grandchildren?

What makes osteopathy different from other treatments?

We understand that not being able to do what you love is a source of great frustration. We strive to get you back to work and your favourite activities as soon as possible (although possibly with some modifications to help you stay pain free).

Do you take your health for granted? Our lives are increasingly busy and stressful and this often means that we don’t always make the healthiest choices when it comes to food, exercise, work and leisure. Processed foods can end up taking the place of healthy eating, the sofa over exercise, long working hours over time off and the pub over healthier leisure pursuits. As for 8 hours sleep a night – how often do you manage that? All of these things can, in the long term, significantly affect our health and general wellbeing.

After a course of treatment from us at Wimborne Osteopathic Clinic, many patients have enjoyed the following benefits:

Effective pain relief

Rapid return to normal activities

Better posture

Increased mobility

Greater flexibility

Life without (or reduced) painkillers

Who we help

At Wimborne Osteopathic Clinic we see patients of all ages from all walks of life and help them to feel more healthy. We often see several generations of the same family. Watch Vicky’s story to find out how a local mum feels about Wimborne Osteopathic Clinic.

People often put up with feeling less than their best, sometimes for years. When they finally come to see us, they say they wish they had come sooner!

If you are considering whether you need to come and see us at Wimborne Osteopathic Clinic, here is some guidance:

  • Don’t ignore pain – if it hasn’t gone away within a week, it is unlikely to. Even if the pain has gone, your body was trying to tell you something.
  • Don’t learn to live with it – the longer you have had it, the longer it will take to go. Prompt treatment is quicker and cheaper – and anyway, why would you want to put up with pain?
  • It is always better to correct the cause and that is what we aim to do. Obviously we need to work to relieve your symptoms, but a “quick fix” often means that the problem will return in the future.
  • Although pain killers can help to relieve your symptoms and, at times, are necessary, they are not addressing the underlying problem. They all have side effects and there is always the risk that you may cause yourself further injury as you will not feel your body’s warning signals (i.e. pain).

We like to work with you, not on you

We keep you informed and give you options at each stage so, once your initial symptoms have resolved, you can decide whether you wish to have ongoing treatment to help prevent future relapses. We are happy to give you as much guidance as you require, but you are the decision maker.

Some patients are really nervous about having treatment. Katherine was concerned about having to undress to be examined but is delighted that she overcame her concerns and came to see us. You can watch Katherine’s story here.

Other patients get great relief over a short course of treatment and are then able to make changes themselves which enable them to maintain their own health without the need for ongoing treatment. Sometimes, these patients pop in for a “top-up” treatment if they have overdone it and we are always delighted to see them. Why not watch Alistair’s story to see how Wimborne Osteopathic Clinic helps him to manage his long-term back pain?

As osteopaths, we believe that the body is self-healing and that osteopathic treatment removes obstacles to healing, thus allowing the body to heal itself. We find that patients who take an active role in their care gain, and maintain, better results. This is perfectly illustrated by Karen’s story – Rona no longer sees her in clinic, only at her weekly Pilates class!

Occasionally, we may suggest referral to another healthcare professional for further investigations. You can watch David’s story to find out how prompt referral had potentially life-changing consequences for him.

What do we treat?

We don’t treat conditions, we treat people but it is obviously helpful for you to get an idea of the kind of symptoms people have when they come to us at Wimborne Osteopathic Clinic, these include:

Back pain

Joint pain

Muscle tension

Minor sprains and strains

Arthritic pain

Nerve pain

Minor sports injuries

Sciatica

Neck ache

Headache (from the neck)

Shoulder problems

Work strain

Postural issues

Pregnancy

We often don’t see patients for years then they come back in with symptoms in a different part of their body. It is lovely for us that they remember how much treatment helped them the first time round. It goes without saying that patients tend to come in much sooner with any subsequent problems than they did the first time!

What patients say:

Katherine

“I was made to feel really comfortable in my appointments.”

Alistair

“I have found it to be very very effective and I can feel the difference straight away.”

Karen

“I’m stronger and more supple than I was before”
